Building your first full-stack application can be both exciting and challenging. In this post, I'll share my experience and what I learned along the way.
Planning Phase
Before writing any code, I spent time understanding what I wanted to build and why. I asked myself: - What problem am I solving? - Who are the users? - What features are essential for the MVP?
Choosing the Tech Stack
I decided to use: - React for the frontend - Node.js and Express for the backend - PostgreSQL for the database - Tailwind CSS for styling
Building the Backend
I started with the backend, creating RESTful APIs and setting up the database schema. This helped me understand how data would flow through the application.
Creating the Frontend
Once the backend was working, I built the frontend, focusing on creating a smooth user experience with React components.
Key Lessons
- Start with a clear plan
- Build incrementally
- Test as you go
- Don't be afraid to refactor
This journey taught me the importance of understanding the full stack, from database to user interface.
